Abstract:
Devices, such as desktop computers play a crucial role in supporting business area. They are all connected to each other through wired or wireless connection to form a local network. Currently, personal computers are already equipped with terabytes of hard drives. This is enormous space for personal or business use. Under normal working conditions, more than half of total storage space is not being used. It is scattered in all connected devices. This dissertation proposes pooling unused storage resources to create a personal private cloud. The process will be transparent to the users, like having a reliable drive with an auto backup built in. The proposed system solution uses a replica-based model in which 3 replicas or 3 sets of the same information will be distributed and kept on 3 different nodes. All the nodes that participate are peer-to-peer (P2P) and are decentralized. Medium-sized businesses do have one major problem, they lack having a good and automate backup system. Data storages are unreliable and they tend to fail without any warning or sign. This private cloud system can help support small or medium businesses as backup system or business sharing drives.
