Abstract:
The objective of this research is to increase the productivity of wiring harness assembly
process for wiring harness in an automotive manufacturer. Before improving, the yield of
process is 21. 90 units per hour, which is lower than the customer demand of 24 units per
hour. Therefore, this study attempts to attain sufficient production capacity. By improving
the standard time of each station. Our approach can be divided into 8 steps. First, the
workflow is divided into sub jobs. Second, the work time of each workstation is recorded.
Third, the number of times is calculated. Four, the time is selected. Five, the rating factor of
speed is calculated. Six, the normal time is selected. Seven, the allowance is calculated.
Eight, the standard time is calculated. Production of the results of the study show that the
bottleneck process takes 2. 74 minutes per unit, representing capacity of 21. 90 units per
hour. Then, work stations with standard time higher than the desired cycle time are
investigated, using flow chart analysis are cause analysis. The improving guidelines are
developed using a systematic questioning technique. 5W1H and ECRS principles are
employed to solve bottleneck problem and obtain a new standard time. As a result, the
new standard time of the bottleneck process becomes 2. 44 minutes per unit, representing
production capacity of 24.59 units per hour. The yield increases by 12.28% and the project
payback period 17.76 weeks.
