Abstract: This thesis deals with the study of construction cost of 4-8 story office buildings. The construction costs of structural, architectural and system work were collected from the blue prints and systematically analyzed in order that they could be used as the database.Altogether 33 building samples were used in the study which comprised of 15 and 18 of 4-5and 6-8 story office building samples, respectively. The data were collected by using theMicrosoft Access and run on the Microsoft Windows. The main features of the database systemallowed the user to add new data as well as to update the existing data by means of the indices of construction materials and labor cost. Visual Basic was used to develop programfor price level which was analysed on statistic basis. Standard forms were developed to help the users to select price level and to fill an essential information. The informationsin the standard forms were to estimate the building cost with the database obtained in the computer. The accuracy of the result depended on the details and accuracy of the collecteddata and the knowledge of the user.The database system had been tested. It was found that the standard forms and the programwere user friendly and the cost appraisement form the database system differed from the actual cost within 3.40 and 1.61 percents for 4-5 story and 6-8 story office buildings,respectively. In addition, the depreciation costs of structural as well as architectural and system works were also studied and suggested.
