Developing key indicators on student-centered learning in technical vocational education and training institutions Vientiane Lao PDR
Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to 1) develop the key indicators of student- centered learning (SCL), 2) examine the quality of key indicators of SCL in TVET Laos context, and 3) apply key indicators of SCL used to assess the teaching. The research participants were divided into four groups: group 1 derived by purposive sampling consisted of 33 teacher experts responded in round one, and by the same group of teacher experts were 26 responded in round two, group 2 derived by purposive sampling consisted of 5 experts panel were responded, group 3 derived by the stratified random sampling consisted of 106 teachers, and group 4 derived by purposive sampling consisted of 54 responded. The research instruments included the questionnaire, the evaluation form, the feasibility and appropriateness form were used to collect data, moreover, the guideline of applying key indicators of SCL was used together with teachers self-assessment form. Accordingly, the data were analyzed using: median, interquartile range, percentage, index of consistency, item-total correlation, correlation analysis, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.
The results of research finding as: 1) the developing key indicators were found five effective key indicators of SCL from fifty-two indicators, 2) the examining quality of five key indicators with each item had the feasibility and the appropriateness at good to the most level which the score between 4.40 to 5.00, as the scores on index of consistency between 0.40 to 1.00, the score of discrimination index between .433 to .666, the reliability (Cronbachs Alpha coefficient) = .908, and the construct validity was showed correlation between each key score and the total scores of FTEOR key indicators = .791, .880, .832, .826, and .842, respectively, and 3) the applying FTEOR key indicators for teachers teaching at Pakpasak Technical College on the assessment was showed almost teachers teaching based on SCL estimated by the mean scores of each key indicators at the frequently level between 16.038 to 16.833.
