Abstract:
This study was aimed to study the slatus and needs of the computer teachers Inprovincial sccondary scllools urder the Department of Gcairal Educatron. The sainplc consistedof 656 hcads of computcr scction aid 1,023 computer tcachcrs form sccondary schools in thepoviirccs which wcrc sclcctcd by stratified random sampliug. Thc tools fill this study wcrequcstionnaircs. 'I'hc statistics used wcrc percentage, mean, standard dcviation and F-tcstThc study finding wcrc as fllows :1. The majonty of computcr tcachcrs workrng in provincial secondary schools undcrthe Deparlment of Gcneral Education wcre aged between 25-30, obtained bachclor degree andhad 1-5 ycar expcr ienccs in teaching computcr. Their responsibility was to tcach computcr inboth lowcr and higher secondary schools. Most of them gained knowledge by self'study.2. Administrators of provincial secondary schools required 10,791 tcachers whoobtained bachelor degree in computer science, wcrc aged bctwcen 25-30 and had 1-3 yearcxpcriences in teacling computer courses.3. For the problcms about computer tcachcrs, it was found that thc numbcr ofcomputer teachcrs was not adequate and thc majority of them did not take computer subjects.4. for the comparison of teaching skills, general skills, computer knowlcdgc,programming knowlcdgc and computer application classilied by schools, it was found that largcand medium schools needed tcachers who were skillful in language programming more than thespecially largc schools. 'I'his was because largc schools and medium schools have justintroduced computer to the students.5. For the cornparison of problems of computer teachers classified by the size of incschools, il was found that small schools had more problcms than the specially largc schools.'Ihis was because the numhcr ofcomputer tcachers was not adequate and most of them did not take computer subjects.
