Abstract:
The objective of this study was to develop a facial mask containing Cissampelos pareira (C. pareira) extract. The leaves of C. pareira were extracted with water at 80 °C then it was evaporated until it was one third of solution. After that it was precipitated by mixing with 95 % ethanol 5 times and heated in hot air oven until dried.
The browned color solid was obtained with the percentage yield of 35.18. Two of base formula emulsions were prepared. The best formula which had stability and sensory quality was selected. The C. pareira extract at concentrations 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5% and 1.0% w/w were incorporated into the selected base. It was found that the formulas containing the C. pareira extract have brown color which the color intensity were increased according to concentration of the extract used. Stability of formulated products were evaluated by heating - cooling cycles. The results showed that all formulas had appropriate stability profile. The preference test of the product containing 0.2% of C. pareira extract was further evaluated in 20 volunteers by comparing with the base formula. The preferences of this formula were significantly higher than base formula. These results can be concluded that the product containing 0.2% of C. pareira extract can be used as sleeping mask however its efficiency should be further studied.
