The Effect of Using Content-based to Enhance LAO EFL College Students' English Speaking Ability
Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to 1) investigate the effcincy of lessons plams using content-based Instruction (CBI) to enhance Lao EFL coiiege students speaking ability at Savannakhet Teacher Training College.ao people Democratic Republi: 2) compare the speaking ability before and after using CRI of Lao EFL college students and 3) investigate the satisfaction towards the leaaon plans using CBI of Lao RFL college students. The samples of this study were 22 third year students at Savannkhet Teacher Training college,Lao PDR who registered in English for Specific purposes IT in academic year 2016-2017. They were selected by using simple random sampling technique,using the classrooms as a sampling unit. The reseaech instruments included four lesson plans of 24 hours,the pre-test and post-test of speaking performance with two different types of tests ,(individually and pair talking).The obtained data were analyzed by using percentage,mean,staqndard deviation,and dependent samples t-test.
The findings were as follows:
1.The efficiency of the lesson plans using CBI was 78.41/78.49 which was higher than the criterion set at 75/75.
2. The learning achievement using CBI of students post test mean score was higher than pre test mean scores with statistically significant difference at .01 level.
3.The students satisfaction towards learning through using CBI to enhance speaking ability in overraii was a more satisfactory level.
