Abstract:
The aims of this research were concerned in the waste minimization of fishprocessing factories. In generally, food industries used high vdume of water in theprocessing activity because of hygiene effect. However, almost of the factories were locatednear the river or sea. Some factories, did not have wastewater treatment plant, woulddischarge wastewater directly into the environment (sea or river). This kinds of wastewater, contained high concentration of organic matters, would effect to the quality of water in riveror sea. And also, environmental management system (IS0 14OOO) was established in thefood processing industries, especially importing products, or minimization of the waste3 In the freezing fish factories, the water consumption were approximately 8.9 mper ton of raw materials. And about 63-80% of water consumption was wastewater. Itmeaned that approximately 6.9 m of wastewater was produced per ton of raw materials.Wastewater of the factory was mainly produced from defrost, processing, washing anddomestic use. Wastewater from washing proposes was 32% of totaI wastewater. Thewastewater from cutting had highest in BOD, (2,347 mg/l). The solid waste, was producedabout SS% of raw material, was head bone, intestine and so on. From aboved results, wecould say that the waste minimization principle could be used such as high pressure cleaningsystem and use of automatically closing valve and reuse of defrost and cooling water. Byaboved management, the consumption of raw water could be reduced. For example, by usingthe high pressure cleaning system and use cyf automzticdly closing valve, the raw waterconsumption was reduced abut 50%. And by using the reuse of defrost waste and coolingwater, the raw water consrmtption was reduced 50% and 98%, respectively-The methods of wastewater treatment to the combiRittiMl between anaerobic filterand activated sludge. The BOD, removal effIcKncy were 7732% aed 95.74% in anaemkfdter process and activate studge process respectively. The final efflueot was found incqiiance with the industrial wastewater effluent StaMiard and reusable
