Abstract:
In preparing for government reform and the necessary procedure after that, King Rama V realised that he had to be very careful in selecting intellectual as well as loyal officers to serve him for that purpose. Thus began the role of the royal family, which included the Kings brothers and sons, in helping to administrate the affairs of the country. They are the group of people whom, according to the King, was most trustworthy. His Royal Highness Prince Paribatra of Nakorn Sawan, one of his royal children, was undoubtedly one of them. He was sent for military training in Germany which allowed him the chance to play important role in the army as well as in the navy in the later part of King Rama Vs reign. Although he was in military career for over twenty years, it did not, by all means, hurt his political status, As a matter of fact, it even increased his political power, which led him to the possibility of attaining his power in the reign of King Rama VII. By that time, he was the most influential and powerful officer. This provided one important reason for government reforming in 2475 B.E. The purpose of this thesis is to present the political situation, the form of government and military, which made important the role of the royal family in administrating the countrys affairs in the last three regimes under Absolute Monarchy by means of analytical approach. The political and military role of His Royal Highness Prince Paribatra of Nakorn Sawan is also analised. He was accused of having influence upon the Kings decision over problems and policies of the country, which finally became one key factor that the Peoples Party used as an excuse to revolt against Absolute Monarchy and commenced the Constitutional Monarchy in 2475 B.E.
