A Study of Gas Pollution Emission near the Express Way and Mathematical Model Comparison

Abstract: This research was to measure the quantities of carbon monoxrde,nrtrogenoxtdesulfur dioxide and particulate matters emrssions near the Thonbun - Paktor expressway exrt and the Suksawad express way entrance The arr samples were taken three hoursa day for 20 days.Different mathematical models for traffic gaseous pollutants were reviewed and themost appropnate model named HIWAY was chosen for the hiway emissron predwtion. Themonitored results Indicated that the numbers of motor vehicles rn the two areas comprised40 percents of pnvate vehicles and 60 percents of dtesel trucks. At the Thonburr - Paktorexpress way exlt,the quantity of vehrcles passing was In a range of 3133 - 3957 vehrcles Ihour, and the average value was 3619 vehwles/hour. At the Suksawad entrance, the numberof vehicles passtng was In a range of 1134 -1454 vehicles I hour and the average value was1301 vehicles / hour The average vehrcles velocrty at the Suksawad express way entrancewas 20 km/hr and 18 km fir cn the area of Thonbun - Paktor express way exit. Thegaseous pollutants and the partwulate matters at Suksawad were measured 15.3 metersaway from the center line of express ways .Carbon monoxide at this distance was found tobe 2 - 8 ppm and the average value was 5 ppm.The particulate matter was measured about0.2207 - 0.4671 mg/m3 and the average value was 0.3501 mg/m3. At the Thonburi -Paktor the monrtored drstance was 14.3 meters away from the express way center Irne. Theconcentration of Carbon Monoxide at this distance was in a range of 3 - 10 ppm and theaverage value was 6.44 ppm. The particulate matter was measured to be 0.5851 - 0.8756mglm3 and the average value was 0.71698 mglm 3 From these on site measurementsSO2 and NO, had not been detected.When the measuring quanttty of Carbon Monoxide emrssron was compared with themathematics model predrctron ,the result rndrcated that at the area of Thonbun - Paktorexpress way , the model gave a good prediction. However , at Suksawad , the predrctedvalue was higher than the measuring was about 80 percents.
