Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to compare the learning of generous behavior between picture storybook models and hand puppet models. The subjects were 60 kindergarten children, age 4-6 years, enrolled at Thepkanjana School, Bangkok. The sample was selected by straitified random sampling by age and sex and then devided by simple random sampling into 3 groups : the control group, the picture storybook model group and the hand puppet model group. Each group included 20 children. As a research instrument 5 stories were used where generous behavior was the main theme. This theme was presented through the picture storybook models and the hand puppet models to the 2 experimental groups for five consecutive at the rate of 1 story per day, 15-20 minutes each time. The control group was presented with any model but followed the regular classroom schedule. Generous behavior was measured interms of amount of candies donated by the subjects during the pretest, the immediate post test and 2 week delayed post test. Data were analysed by arithmetic means, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA and t-test (dependent group). Research finding show that : 1) the 2 experimental groups show a greater increase of generous behavior than the control group were found significant at the .05 level ; 2) there is no significant difference between the 2 experimental groups with regards to increase of generous behavior; 3) the hand puppet model group shows more constancy of increase of generous behavior than the picture storybook model group significant at .05 level.
