Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the expectation of the Ethic Drafting Committee, teachers, parents and students of the significance of morals for teachers and its essences to be counted as important teachers, ethics. A set of 80-item questionnaires consistings of a sample of fundamental moral and codes of professional ethics were used as instruments. A number of 1442 samples composing of some members of the Ethics Drafting Committee of the National Education Council, teachers, parents and students in Bangkok Metropolitan was used in the main study. The data were then analyzed by means of means, S.D., and F-tests to test the significant difference among the 4 groups of the samples. Schaffer Tests were also applied as posterior tests when the differences existed at p = .05 The finding can be summarized as follow : 1. The samples in the Ethics Drafting Committee, teachers, parents and students expected that 12, 67 and 1 codes of the moral were essentially, very and moderately important, respectively. The expected essential codes were : to be honest (e.g. not to corrupt), not to be delinquent (e.g. not to be a gamble, a rowdy or a habitual drinker), to trust in the nation religion and royalty, to have responsibility in teaching, to believe and to follow laws and regulations not to be adulterous, not to thieve, not to misuse any of academic outcome, to be fair in assigning grades and marks, to love and trust in this teaching profession, to devote all his strength for his students and education, to be in good discipline, and to be well-behave. 2. The expectations of the 4 groups of subjects in 55 items were significantly different and 45 items of them were in pairwise (p = .05). The number of pairs of such differences between the groups of the teachers and the students was the highest. The groups of the parents and the students had similar expectations. However, among the 4 groups, the members of the Ethic Drafting Committee as a group had the lowest expectations. 3. All the 4 groups of the subjects thought that 3 codes of ethics should be assigned as essential ones. They were : not to be delinquent (e.g. not to be gamble or a habitual drinker), to be honest (e.g. not to corrupt) and to trust in the nation, religion and royalty. Generally speaking, the teacher and the members of the Ethic Drafting Committee had lower expectations of the moral codes that to be in the teachers codes of ethics 4. The 4 groups of subjects had 8 expectations of the teachers codes of ethics at essential level and 21 at important level. The most expected essential codes were to be honest (e.g. not to corrupt), not to provoke violations, to trust in the nation, religion, and royalty, to have well behaves, not to misuse any of academic outcomes, to be fair in grade and mark assignment, to love and have faith in the teaching profession, to devote all strength for his students and education and to have full responsibility in teaching. However, the lowest expectation of all the subjects in the 4 groups were to economize and to live in simple life to suit the nature of his profession.
