Communication problems between foreign teachers and Thai Teachers at Saint Gabriel
Abstract:
The purposes of this study were: 1) to find out communication problems of foreign
teachers with Thai teachers in the classroom, 2) to investigate communication problems of
Thai teachers with foreign teachers in the classroom, and 3) to compare the differences
between foreign teachers and Thai teachers in terms of communication problems in the
classroom. This survey research employed a questionnaire as a research tool to collect the
data. The samples consisted of 40 foreign teachers and 40 Thai teachers teaching in
Intensive English Program at Saint Gabriel s College in the second semester of the 2016
academic year. The questionnaire was as a data collecting instrument from November 1,
2016 to January 31, 2017. The statistical procedures employed to analyze the data were
frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and independent-simples t- test through
the statistical package. The results showed that: 1) The majority of the foreign teachers
revealed that the dominant problem in communicating with Thai teachers was language
problems, 2) The majority of the Thai teachers revealed that the dominant problem in
communicating with foreign teachers was high anxiety, and 3) The results revealed that
language problems and high anxiety were significantly different at the level of 0.05
