Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study the needs for the development of secondary school Thai language teacher competencies in Bangkok Metropolis in the following aspects: knowledge, instruction, personality and attitudes, and to propose project for the development of secondary school Thai language teacher competencies The sample was 438 Thai language teachers in secondary schools in Bangkok Metropolis under the Department of General Education, Ministry of Education. The obtained data from questionnaires were analyzed by means of percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and then presented in table and descriptive forms. The results of the research were as follows: 1. Secondary school Thai language teachers had a need to develop their competencies at a high level in the following aspects : knowledge about curriculum, supplementary knowledge in Thai language content, planning of instruction, teaching methods, production and utilization of instructional media, measurement and evaluation, personality and attitudes. 2. A propose project for the development of secondary school Thai language teacher competencies consisted of six subprograms. The project details were approved, and some suggestions were also given by most of experts. The project was then modified.
