Attitudes of English Teachers in World-Class Standard Schools Under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 35 Towards the Conditions of English Teaching and Learning
Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to investigate the attitude of English teachers in World-Class Standard School under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 35 towards the conditions of English Teaching and Learning in three aspects: quality of academic, quality of English teachers and quality of research and development. The populations of this research were 152 of Secondary School English teachers in World Class Standard School under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 35 from 20 schools in two provinces, Lampang and Lamphun. The instruments used for collecting data was questionnaire. The data were statistically analyzed in terms of percentage, mean and standard deviation.
The results showed that the attitudes of English teachers in World class Standard School in the aspect of the quality of teacher were in the highest level with the mean score of 3.67. The quality of research and development with the quality of academic were in the middle level with the mean score of 3.42 and 3.01 respectively. The information from the open ended questions showed that in the aspect of the quality of academic the teachers thought that the content of the curriculum was suitable and corresponded to the context of the World-Class Standard School and the Basic Education Core Curriculum 2551. The school provided teaching materials with learning resources and technology which were up to date and practical with teaching and learning. The assessment included listening, speaking, reading and writing skills following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: CEFR. According to the quality of teacher, the teachers were competent in English Language, able to use the innovation in teaching and learning, and regularly attended English test and training, in terms of the research and development, the schools continuously promoted the teachers to do the research and using the research results to uplift the academic quality to be in line with the world class standard. Besides, the schools also evaluated the teachers research every semester and provided a forum for presenting the action research to share and exchange the knowledge.
