Students Attitudes and Factors Affecting English Language Skills Preparation for AEC Community Affiliation: A Case Study of Students from 7 Professional Occupations Curriculums
Abstract:
This research aimed to study attitudes of the students in University of Phayao and factors affecting English language skills preparation needed prior to joining the AEC (Asean Economics Community) in 2015. The population involved in this research were the student studying in the following courses, doctor of medicine, bachelor of nursing science, bachelor of accountancy, bachelor of architecture (architecture), bachelor of engineering, doctor of dental surgery, bachelor of business administration (tourism). Specifically, only 569 students who would be graduated in 2016 were associated in this study. The data was collected by using questionnaires and semi-structured interview and, then, was analyzed applying descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that the students attitudes showing their agreement on the establishment of AEC. In overall, the importance of AEC in aspect of history and education was categorized in the level of much as well as the economic issue while the importance of AEC on social and political matter showed in medium level. Regarding the preparation of English language skills for entering the AEC was found that the university of Phayao provided widely supports of educational technology for their student in much level. One factor which was also grouped in much result is lecturers or instructors whereas the preparation of curriculum and the students themselves were classified to be intermediate. According to the interview results it was found that the majority of the students would like to go for work in the AEC countries because of the economic factors and the possibility to gain more experiences.
