Mathematics learning outcomes on fraction problems for primary education 6 students by using student teams achievement division (STAD) and star learning methods
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to 1) investigate efficiency of learning management plan of mathematics on fraction problems of the sixth grade students by using the combination of student teams-achievement divisions (STAD), a cooperative learning strategy, and STAR strategy, a stepby-step behavioral instruction and visual prompts using 75/75 criterion, 2) compare their learning outcomes before and after implementing the two learning methods, and 3) examine the students satisfaction on the application of the two instructional methods.
The samples of this study were 21 primary education 6 students selected via purposive sampling method from Wat Sawangphob School in Klong Luang District, Pathumthani Province under the Office of Pathumthani Primary Education Area 1 in the second semester of the academic year 2016. The research tools used in this study were 7 lesson plans of mathematics subject on fraction problems, a pre-posttest on fraction problems, and a questionnaire to find out the students satisfaction on applying the STAD and STAR strategies in the mathematics learning. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t- test.
The results showed that: 1) efficiency of the mathematics learning management plan was higher than the criterion set at .05 level of significance which was consistent with the preset hypothesis, 2) the student's post-test scores were higher than the pre-test scores at .05 level of significance which was consistent with the set hypothesis, and 3) the students were mostly satisfied with the combination of STAD and STAR learning methods at .05 level of significance which corresponded to the hypothesis set.
