Abstract:
Statement of the Problem 1. To find out the problem of the students in Prathom Suksa Four in reding r , l and w cluster sound. 2. To construct pattern drills in reading cluster of r, l and w for Prathom Suksa Four 3. To study the ability to read through the constructed pattern drills Procedure A reading test of 100 r, l and w cluster words from the 3rd and 4th grade text books were constructed to be used as a tool to find out the reading problems of 70 students in Prathom Suksa Four from Mater Dei school. The answers to those test were calculated to find the percentages of word-error in each word of the test. After that 21 pattern drills were constructed as on exercised work book for the some group of student, some of words from the test were chosen to be used in the pattern drills. Time allowment for certain practice was 7 hours. The post-test was done after practicing of the pattern drills. All the data gathered were analyzed. The z-test was used to discern the difference between pre-test and post-test. Results The z-test for reading r , l and w cluster words before and after drilling was significantly different at the .01 level of confidence. Therefor, twenty one constructed pattern drills increased the ability of the students in reading cluster of r , l and w . Recommendation 1. The supplementary pattern drills in reading r , l and w cluster should also be constructed for other grades. 2. Audio-visual aids such as Tape recorder should be used in this study in order to make a better evaluation of the students. 3. Pattern drills always be checked and corrected. Moreover the students should be able to take part in all classroom activities as much as possible. 4. Other variable such as sex , nationality , economic and social condition , parents profession and academic achievement of student should be investigated in order to provide the high efficiency pattern drills for the children.
