Abstract:
The qualitative study attempts to study factors initiating work motivation of sewing staff in Anita (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The findings would be used to establish the management policy on human resource and maintenance of skilled and effective sewing staff as well as establishment of work motivation of new staff. In-depth interviews were applied to collect the data from 15 sewing staffs working in production division, Anita (Thailand) Co., Ltd., whose work experience was more than one year. The findings reveal that the sewing staff could be divided into three groups according to the work length, that is, 1) more than 5 years of work experience, 2) 3-4 years of work experience and, 3) 1-2 years of work experience. In fact, each group would have work motivation in different level. The factors that could motivate them could be classified into three levels or work motivation. They were 1) high-level work motivation factors including factors in the forms of money such as diligence allowance, work experience allowance, cost of living as well as the factors in the form of non-money such as learning the work for self-development, self-comparison to colleagues, getting better quality of life: establishment of organization at the green zone and pleasant atmosphere in the working space; 2) moderate-level work motivation factors in the forms of providing service and facilities such as drinking water, toilet, messenger of parts and equipment; 3) low-level work motivation factors in the forms of basic motivation as provided by the labor laws such as safety policy and safety device. When analyzing factors initiating work motivation, it was found that the factors could classified into five aspects and they could be arranged from the greatest to the least as follows: 1) welfare and policy, 2) facility, 3) job characteristics, 4) society and, 5) security.
