Abstract:
The purposes of this study were 1) to develop logo, a computer program, for elementary students to enhance their mathematical concepts and skills and 2) to find out what teaching method applicable to the designed curriculum. The three chosen methods were deductive, inductive and mixed. The study was conducted by researching into needs assessment which was essential to curriculum development. Then logo curriculum had been developed to enhance elementary students mathematical concepts and skills. The composition of the curriculum was background and policy, curriculum objective, curriculum content, curriculum implementation and curriculum evaluation. The content of the curriculum comprised of introduction to microcomputers, logo program design, application of logo to calculation, geometric designs and drawing made by geometric designs. After being explored, it was found that the quality of the developed curriculum met the specified criteria. The students attitude points towards mathematics and its concepts points was higher than before the curriculum was introduced with statistical significant level at .01. And more than 70% of the students found the curriculum satisfactory, useful and corresponding to their capacity. As for the three methods, they were used to teach students with different mathematical achievement level and the results obtained indicates that the methods and mathematical achievement level did not affect indicates that the methods and mathematical achievement level did not affect points given on attitude towards mathematics and its concepts.
