Chemical constituents and biological activities from garcinia cowa and garcinia propinqua
Abstract:
Phytochemical investigations of the ripe and young fruit extracts of Garcinia cowa and the leaf and stem bark extracts of Garcinia propinqua resulted in the isolation and identification of 24 new compounds including three xanthones, two benzophenones, and 19 caged-xanthones along with 50 known compounds. All new compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods (UV, IR, NMR, Mass and ECD) while the known compounds were characterized by mainly 1H NMR spectroscopic data as well as comparisons with literature. Some of isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicities against a colon cancer cell line, antibacterial and α-glucosidase activities.
