Randomized, double-blind clinical trial for eyebrow lifting comparing between different concentration of intradermal botulinum toxin type a injection
Abstract:
Background: An intradermal botulinum toxin injection is a technique of microinjections of diluted botulinum toxin to preserve facial mobility. And this technique is widely used for facelift. Between different concentration of botulinum toxin injection which one gives better result in lifting eyebrow with intradermal technique
Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic result in efficacy and wrinkle at Crows feet, duration of action of different concentration of intradermal botulinum toxin injection in the treatment of lifting eyebrow.
Material and Methods: Twenty subjects were injected single treatment with different concentration of intradermal botulinum toxin(3.0 Unit and 4.2 Unit) ,randomized, double-blind to lift eyebrow at hairline then all enrolled subjects has been measured mean brow height change and taken photograph by VISIA®, measured wrinkle at Crows feet by VISIOSCAN® before and after injection in each follow up visit. Clinical visits were scheduled at immediate after treatment up to 120 days.
Results: there were no significant difference of brow height and the treatment of wrinkle at crows feet between both groups (p>0.05). However, there was significant difference in duration of action between both groups (p=0.01): The 4.2 Unit group was longer in duration than 3.0 Unit group, 91 and 68 days respectively. There was also a significant difference of subject satisfactions, they prefer 4.2 U group to 3.0 U group (p<0.05). There was no adverse side effect occurred
Conclusion: In lifting eyebrow and decreasing wrinkle at Crows feet with intradermal injection technique, botulinum toxin type A diluted in different concentration has the same efficacy but higher concentration has longer duration of action. Both are consider safe with no side effect.
