Health behaviors regarding street foods consumption of prathom suksa six students in elementary schools under the jurisdiction of Bangkok Metropolitan administration
Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to identify and compare health behaviors regarding consumption of street foods by Protom Suksa six students in elementary schools under the Jurisdiction of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in the areas of knowledge, attitudes and practices. The independent variable was the education level of the parents. To accomplish this study, a survey questionnaire was utilized. Five hundred subjects, comprising of 256 male and 244 female students were randomly sampled. The obtained data were then analyzed in terms of percentages, means and standard deviations. A F-test was employed to determine the significant differences among the education level of the parents at the .05 level. The findings were as follows: 1. As a whole, students knowledge regarding consumption of street foods were at the good level. The students should improve in the following areas : food contamination with molds and the diseases transmitted by regular consumption of street foods. The students whose parents graduated from secondary schools had a higher level of knowledge in street foods consumption than the students whose parents had graduated at a lower level than secondary school significantly at the .05 level. 2. As a whole, students attitudes regarding consumption of street foods were at the good level in the following areas : Campaigning for street vendor cleanliness ; Being educated in regards to street foods in their teaching curriculum. Although, the students had the fair level attitudes in the following areas ; students thought that street foods were fast and convenient to buy ; it was acceptable to buy street foods. There were no significant differences at the .05 level regarding the education level of the parents. 3. As a whole, students practices regarding consumption of street foods were at the fair level regarding eating street foods to quell hunger. There were no significant differences at the .05 level regarding the education level of the parents.
