Abstract:
To study the effect of advanced organizer on reading comprehension and retention of prathom suksa students. The subjects consisted of 120 students in Prathom Suksa 6, academic year 1997, randomly drawn for Wat Phaetra Sukharom School in Rayong Province. They were randomly divided into 4 groups, each group consisted of 30 students : the first group read six stories with outline and underlined. The second group read six stories with outline only. The third group read six stories with underlined. The fourth group was the control group. The subjects in all group read the same story each day for 6 days. The data were collected immediately after the reading session and 2 week after the reading session. All subjects were tested by the reading comprehension test. The data were analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance. The research findings could be summarized as follows: 1. The group read story with outline and underlined obtained higher reading comprehension scores than the group read story with outline only, the group read story with underlined only and the control group, significant at the .05 level. 2. The group read story with outline only and the group read story with underlined only obtained reading comprehension scores higher than the control group, significant at the .05 level. 3. There were no statistical significant differences of reading retention scores among the group read story with outline and underline, the group read story with outline, the group read story with underlined and the control group.
