Abstract:
The purposes of this research are to study which types of learning style most of the academic reference librarians are and to find out which training activity most of them need. The population were 143 academic reference librarians from both government and private sectors under the Ministry of University Affairs. The research instruments comprised of Honey and Mumford learning style questionnaire, questionnaire about training activities they need most as well as questionnaire on personal data and status. The data were analysed by frequency, percentage and chi-square test. The findings show that most of the academic reference librarians are activists, follow by reflectors and theorists with equal quantity and pragmatists respectively. Most of them need training activity which the trainees will have chance to experiment what they had learned to solve problems in real situation. The training activity which is least demand is to analyze the concept by using logic and creating new theory. The results also show that the relationships between learning styles and other variables such as age group, highest degree obtained, university where undergraduate, domicile, length of experience in librarian position, most preferable work and other work assigned have no statistical significant differences. On the other hand, librarians learning style has statistical significant with the length of professional experience.
