Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate strategies to create food security of organic farmers in the Lower
Northeast of Thailand. The target group used in study was 24 farmers at mainstay level and farmers who had had
good practice in organic farming for not less than 5 years in the areas of Ubon Ratchathani, Yasothon and Amnat
Charoen provinces. Of these 24 farmers selected by purposive sampling, 12 were derived from the Donmoo village
organic farming school group, Khampia sub-district, Trakan Phuet Phon district, Ubon Ratchathani province and the
other number of 12 from the group of rice from the value of virtues of farmers in Yasothon and Amnat Charoen
provinces. The instruments used in data collection were an in-depth interview and an observation whose qualities were examined by experts. Data collected were analyzed by content analysis and then synthesized for the elements.
Findings of the study revealed that the strategies to create security of organic farming in the Lower Northeast
in the aspects of consumption, production and resource are the processes that begin from bringing the production
resources like soil and water and various circulatory inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, fi nance, labor and engines to use
in organic production management comprising resources management, circulatory production inputs management
and production processes management. In creating the organic farming, the use of knowledge and technology and
the support by group, community and network in various areas are needed to derive the outputs of diverse food
products which are safe and nutritious. Most of the products were increased in quantity and quality. The yields were
managed by the backup storage, exchange, apportion and distribution in both forms of self-reliance and reliance
on one another in the group, community and network according to the philosophy of Suffi ciency Economy and
Northeastern culture. In addition, there were conservations of forests, soils and water contributing to an abundance
of natural resources and natural food.
