Abstract:
This study is objected to develop Tradescantia spathacea extract for cosmetic uses. The
fresh and dried T. spathacea were macerated with water, 95, 70 and 50 % ethanol. The percentage
yield of the fresh T. spathacea in 50 % ethanol was 3.53 ± 0.12 %, reddish brown solid form. This
extract showed the highest total phenolic content (17.51 ± 0.20 mg GAE/g crude extract) and the
highest total anthocyanins content (0.36 ± 0.03 mg cyanidin-3-glucoside/g dry weight).
Furthermore, under accelerated condition with heat-cool cycle, the extract solution form was red
brown, but the solid form was stable and total anthocyanins content were 65.37 ± 3.75 and 30.75
± 3.75% decreased, respectively.
