Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to study the desired competencies of vocational internship students based on enterprise needs and to compare the desired competencies of vocational internship students depending on the size of the enterprises. The samples of this study included 184 related persons selected by simple sampling technique who were HR managers, production managers, supervisors, and supervisors for internship students in the electrical and electronic enterprises under the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). The research instrument was questionnaire divided into 2 main parts, i.e. core competencies or basic competencies and functional competencies or technical competencies. Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test for independent samples with the results as follows.
It was found that the desired competencies of vocational internship students based on the needs of the large and the medium enterprises towards core competencies or basic competencies, which consisted of the competency of knowledge and basic skills which effect to jobs and the competency concerning to characteristics which are necessary for jobs, were at high level. Moreover, the requirement of functional competencies or technical competencies especially on electrical power and electronics, was also at high level. When comparing the desired competencies according to the size of enterprises, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the large and the medium enterprises at .05 following the research hypothesis,
while the requirement of competencies on electrical power and electronics did not show the statistically significant difference.
