Abstract:
This thesis presis the measurement and analysis of the F2 layer critical frequency (foF2) and the peak height (hmF2) of the ionophere from 2004 to 2009 at Chumphon and Chiang Mai stations in Thailand, and Kototabang station in Indonesia. These stations are locations are licated at conjugate points in Southeast Asia. The foF2 and hmF2 data at this area have never been syudied. modeled nor mapped. Thus, the contributions of this thesis are (1) the analysis of the variation of foF2 and hmF2 observationd and compared with the IRI model predictions for all three stations. The results tha the IRI model overestimates the observed foF2 at Chumphon station, but it underestimates the measured data at Chiang Mai and Kototabang stations. Besides, the IRI model predictions of the hmF2 data underestimates the observed hmF2 for all three sites during daytime, but it overestimates the measured data during nighttime. (2) For more accurate prediction, a neural network (NN) with backpropagation is used for the prediction of foF2 and hmF2 vaues for all tree stations. The results concludes that the NN model can prediet the foF2 and hmF2 values at Chumphon station more accurately than that at Chang mai and Kototanang stations. This is because more data for training the NN at Champhon cause thepredicted of NN at Champhon to be best. Moreover, thr NN model predicts foF2 and hmF2 values more accurately than the IRI model except some periods at Chiang Mai and Kototabang station. (3) The generation of the local foF2 and hnF2 maps over Southeast Asia usia the polynomial regression. The results confirmed that the distribution of foF2 maps and hmF2 maps are generally compatible with the observations over Southeast Asia region.
