Competencies of Police Officers in the Tourism Safety and Services Police Squads: A Case Study of the Police Stations of the Provincial Police Division Region 8
Abstract:
This study of the Competencies of the Police Officers in the Tourism Safety and Services Police Squads in Region 8 of the Provincial Police Division, aimed to explore the competencies, the motivation factors, and the relationships between motivation factors and competencies of police officers in the Tourism Safety and Services Squads. The study population consisted of police officers in 37 police stations attached to Region 8 of the Provincial Police Division. The study chose a squad of eight police officers from each of the 37 police stations, for a total of 296 officers. Data was gathered by means of a questionnaire. Statistical analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearsons product moment coefficient.
The study revealed the following.
1. Personal factorsIt was found that the largest categories of respondents were people who were 30-40 years old, who had a bachelors degree, who had a monthly income in the range of 20,001 to 25,000 baht, who had served in the Safety and Services for Tourists Squads for more than seven years, and who had been trained specifically for the work.
2. Motivation factorsIt was found that the overall level of motivation among the police officers in the Safety and Services for Tourists Squads was high. Four of the motivation factors were rated at a high level. These included responsibility, work achievement, type of work, and career progression. The motivation of monthly salary and compensation was at a moderate level.
3. CompetenciesIt was found that the overall competency level of police officers in the Safety and Services for Tourist Squads was high. The respondents ratings of the police officers levels of competency gave highest rankings, from high to

low, to police ethics, teamwork, achievement motivation, services, and human relations.
4. When testing the first hypothesis, it was found that the competencies of police officers in the Safety and Services for Tourist Squads did not differ according to personal factors such as: age, educational level, monthly income, length of service, and training.
5. When testing the second hypothesis, it was found that police officers of different ages and monthly incomes were different in their levels of motivation. The group of officers under 30 years old and the group with monthly incomes of 15,001 to 20,000 Baht had lower motivation than other groups, with the average level of their opinions being at a moderate level.
6. As for hypothesis3, it was found that the relationships between motivational factors and the competencies of the police officers were low. The motivational factors that had positive correlations included teamwork, police ethics, achievement motivation, and services. Negative correlations were found in the area of human relations.
