Abstract:
Objectives: The purpose of this research was to find out the result of teacher's aids training in teaching Thai language reading and writing to Hill Tribes. It was also to study the use Thai language text books and Teacher's guides published by the Department of Elementary Education, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University. Procedures: The tools utilized in this research were the Special curriculum particularly designed for the research project; text books; teacher's guides; tests; practice teaching evaluation forms; text books evaluation forms and the method of teaching Thai language reading and writing. These tools were used on training 80 trainees at the Hill Tribe Development and Welfare Center, Mae Sarieng District, Maehongsorn Province. The research data was collected from the scores of the pretest and the posttest, from academic achievements in Thai language reading and writing and the fundamentals of teacher education, from the method of teaching and practice teaching. Results: 1. The trainees achievements in Thai language reading and writing, in fundamentals of teacher education and the ability in teaching were satisfactory. 2. The arithmetic means (X) of the pretest and the posttest showed insignificance at the level of .50. However, most of the trainees were able to improve their language usage and understand how to teach. In addition, they were able to produce the teaching aids better. 3. The statistical relationship between the achievement in Thai language reading and writing and the ability in teaching gave a correlation coefficient (rxy) of .54 which was significant at the level of .01. It showed that the achievement in Thai language reading and writing and the ability in teaching were positively related. 4. The statistical relationship between the achievement in the fundaments of teacher education and the ability in teaching gave a correlation coefficient (rxy) of .61 which was significant at the level of .01. It showed that they were positively related. 5. The educational background, experiences and status of the trainees did not influence their self-confidence in teaching. 6. The trainees were able to understand the subject matter in Thai language text books for Hill Tribe Children well. The pretest and the posttest scores of their understanding were positive. Consequently, the tools and material, used in this research were efficient and the training could be considered effective and successful.
