Abstract:
The objective of this research is to develop the method for comparing the capability of the multiple processes. Equations to calculate costs and losses based on process capability were developed to be used as criteria for comparing. In addition, the procedure taken to compare the capability of the multiple processes was developed to be used as a guideline to improve the processes or parameters that are the major causes of costs and losses in the manufacturing. The cost model was developed from the ANSI/ASQ Z1.9 variable sampling plan and based on structure of the cost of quality, which composes of internal failure costs, external failure costs. Moreover, the out of target cost was also considered. The procedures developed have been prepared as a manual of guideline for comparison to the capability of the multiple processes, which consists of three main steps as follows. First, the final product parameters are selected. Second, the processes are prioritized and the parameters are selected for improvement. Finally, the guideline of the process capability improvement is determined. The developed method was applied to the case study, which is a soap manufacturing to demonstrate the procedure that has been developed. In addition, the developed method has been presented to four types of industries. The satisfaction on the method was evaluated in order to forecast the possibility of applying the method for use in industry The evaluation results showed that the industries were satisfied with the developed procedures at the level of high satisfaction. Also, the method is an interesting way to implement for comparing the capability of the multiple processes, leading to improving of the satisfaction of both customers and producers in terms of production costs.
