Abstract:
The objective of this independent study was to prepare skin whitening cream containing
radish root extract and to evaluate the effectiveness of cream with radish extract concentration of
3,6 and 9% comparing with cream base. The physical properties and stability test in various
conditions showed that all products were stable. Primary skin irritation test by using closed patch
test on 20 volunteers showed that all product were non-irritating on the skin. Lightening effect on
24 volunteers was performed for 4 weeks by using mean melanin index measured by Mexameter
MX18. The results showed a significant reduction of mean melanin index (p-value < 0.05).
Cream containing radish root extract at 9% showed the highest reduction (23.37±9.15) of pigment
melanin and followed by cream with radish 6% (16.29±7.41) and radish 3% (8.25±5.10)
respectively. The volunteers satisfaction was evaluated by the questionnaires with total score of
10 highest satisfaction and results showed that the volunteers have high overall satisfaction.
Satisfaction of cream base, cream containing radish 3, 6 and 9% had a score 8.04 ± 0.62, 8.00±
0.59, 7.96±0.69 and 7.92±0.72, respectively.
