Abstract:
This work aimed to reduce time to change over die in an auto part manufacturer.
Before the improvement, the average time to change the die was 26.6 minutes per time
which was the big loss of all losses. The principles of work study and SMED were used
to upgrade the pressing machine, adding more facilities, and improving the changing
procedure. As a result, the time taken to change over the die was 11.2 minutes per time,
15.4 minutes decreased or 57.9% reduction. Usually, the changing of die was done 5
times per day, the improvement could save the time of 77 minutes per day. The output
increased approximately 19,404 Bath per day per machine. The improvement invested
about 1,105,200 Bath and the breakeven point was 2 months. So, this improving method
should be useful with all of the changing over of die.
