Abstract:
The objective of this research was to reduce fraction defective of rubber tape from the weaving process of 372/18G product. According to the fraction defective of rubber tape in 2009, the highest defective rate was weaving process of 5.18%. After analyzing the data, it was found that edge defects contributing about 41.16% of all defective items which was the highest part of them. The reason for the edge defects was because of machine settings. The setting factors affected the fraction defective were (1) reed drive, (2) spring weft, (3) star view on the left, and (4) star view on the right. The 2k design of
experiment was used to obtain whether all of the factors affected the amount of defective. As the results of normal plot of the defective, it suggested that only factors (3) and (4) were significant effect on the defective. Later, the 3k design of experiment was used to find the good settings for less amount of defectives. After the experiments, it was found that the settings of the factor (3) of 3.5 and the factor (4) of 4.0 gave the smallest fraction defective. Therefore, the average fraction defective was reduced from 0.34 to 0.19 gross per day, 0.15 gross or 44.12% reduction.
