Abstract: บทความวิชาการนี้ เป็นการวิเคราะห์ตีความภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนังภาคใต้สมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ ช่วงรัชกาลที่ 1 – 6 ที่แสดงออกถึงความเชื่อความศรัทธาต่อพระพุทธศาสนาของภาคใต้ บริเวณฝั่งทิศตะวันออกทะเลอ่าวไทย ประกอบด้วยจังหวัดชุมพร สุราษฎร์ธานี นครศรีธรรมราช พัทลุง สงขลา นราธิวาส ปัตตานี ที่สืบสานพระพุทธศาสนาโดยการสร้างวัดขึ้นในชุมชนและเขียนภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนังเพื่อประดับตกแต่งภายในสถาปัตยกรรมตามความเหมาะสมกับขนาดพื้นที่ และเพื่อเป็นเครื่องยึดเหนี่ยวทางด้านจิตใจตามความเชื่อความศรัทธาต่อพุทธศาสนาของคนในภาคใต้ ดังปรากฏภาพเนื้อหาหลักตามแบบแผนช่างหลวงภาคกลาง ด้วยภาพทศชาติ พุทธประวัติ ปริศนาธรรม และเนื้อหารองแทรกภาพประเพณีวัฒนธรรม และภาพวิถีชีวิต ดังเช่นภาพการทำ บุญ ฟังเทศน์ เพื่อเป็นการสะสมบุญในปัจจุบันชาติเพื่ออนาคตชาติที่สอดคล้องกับความเชื่อในเรื่องกฎแห่งกรรมที่มีจุดเชื่อมโยง 3 จุด คือ อดีตชาติ – ปัจจุบันชาติ – อนาคตชาติ ผสมผสานกับความเชื่อดั้งเดิมของท้องถิ่นภาคใต้ ซึ่งสรุปได้ว่าภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนังภาคใต้ แสดงออกตามความเชื่อในพระพุทธศาสนา
