Abstract:
Biogas was produced by two-phase anaerobic digestion systems from pineapple pulp and
peel (1:1 ratio). The acidogenic stage was operated in contact tank and the methanogenic stage
was done in hybrid reactor at solid feed of 1, 2 and 4%. The increase of TVA (Total Volatile Acid)
in contact tank was observed when HRT (Hydraulic Retention Time) was decreased to 3 day at
TS 1, 2 and 4%, showing maximum TVA production at 1,850, 2,734 and 4,761.7 mg CaCO3/l
respectively. The maximum biogas production was 908.20 ml/day at HRT 10 day in contact tank
with the efficiency of COD reduction 58.1 % at HRT 10. The Biogas production was decreased
by reduced HRT and increase of TS. High biogas production was obtained in hybrid reactor at
2,702.5 ml/day from HRT of 7 days using TS 4% with the efficiency of COD reduction of the
system at 67.04%. More COD was removed in the sludge zone than in the packed zone.
