Abstract:
The objective of this study To study the opinions of the Thai language teachers concerning the influence of mass media on Thai language usage of secondary school students in Bangkok Metropolis. The researcher constructed a series of questionnaires consisting of checklists, rating scales and open-ended questions. The questionnaires were then sent to two-hundred Thai language teachers from fifteen secondary public schools in Bangkok Metropolis. One hundred and eighty six out of two-hundred distributed questionnaires (or ninety-three percent) were returned. The data were tabulated and analyzed by means of percentage, arithmetic means and standard diviation. The results were organised in forms of tables and essay. It is found in this study that : 1. The Thai language teachers conveyed opinions that mass media moderately promote the Thai language usage. 2. The Thai language teachers thought that the role of mass media in promoting listening skill through news, articles and other forms of knowledge is high. 3. The Thai language teachers had an idea that mass media highly promote listening, speaking and reading skills by portrayed good and bad examples in their writing. 4. The Thai language teachers believed that mass media highly promote the students speaking abilities in terms of the pronunciations of /r/, /1/ and cluster sound. 5. The Thai language teachers highly believed in the usefulness of mass media. 6. The Thai language teachers believed that mass media promote the usage of writing punning in the low degree of appropriateness.
