Abstract:
The objectives of this study were 1) to develop models for measure scientific mind of primary school students, 2) to check the quality of the Scientific Mind Test for primary school students. 3) to create a norm of scientific mind for primary school students. The sample used in this study were 3,134 primary school students in years 1 to 6 which selected from 24 schools under the Office of Basic Education. The instrument used in this study according to reseacher Scientific Mind Tests, Test of Scientific Mind by Rowland (2005), and the Scientific Attitude Scale of Moore & Foy (1997) for primary school students. Confirmatory factor analysis were performed to determine the construct validity. Pearsons product moment correlation coefficients were examined to determine the criterion-related validity. Cronbach's alpha internal consistencies were estimated for reliability of scales. Data were analyzed by the SPSS for window and the LISREL program. The finding were as follows : 1. Scientific Mind Test Model of primary school students was developed by resercher (Model 1) that consit of 10 features: 1 Curiosity 2) Rationality 3) Openness 4) Integrity 5) Effort commitment 6) Assistance 7) Responsibility 8) Creativity 9) of prudent and 10) and a good attitude toward science. The reliability of each factors were 0.67, 0.89, 0.85, 0.75, 0.81, 0.64, 0.66, 0.69, 0.77 and 0.62, respectively. The reliability of Scientific Mind Test by Rowland Concept (Model 2) include 9 features: 1) beliefing that knowledge can be prove 2) Have to be considered carefully with the requirements of the event to make decisions 3) Have an idea criticized by consciousness that is not biased 4) Have ability to adapt and open-minded 5) Have a curious 6) To be known reject the belief that there is no proof 7) Inqury understanding the reason 8) participation in social science, and 9) Understanding and use of science. The reliability of each factors were 0.61, 0.66, 0.70, 0.76, 0.83, 0.65, 0.76, 0.68 and 0.70, respectively. 2. Both Model 1 and Model 2 in Scientific Mind Test for primary school students that have the criteria related to scale Scientific Attitude of Moore & Foy (1997) a significant level of 0.01 with reliability for internal consistency of the test were 0.93 and 0.92. The measurement model 1 and model 2 were consistent with the empirical data. The model 1, a variance in the dependent variable scientific mind was 71 percent and this model was identified by χ² = 156.70, p = 0.14, df = 209, GFI = 0.97 AGFI = 0.93 and RMR = 0.02. The Model 2 for 70 percent of variance in scientific mind, this model was identified by χ² = 156.70, p = 0.14, df = 139 GFI = 0.98 AGFI = 0.92 and RMR = 0.02. 3. Norm score of scientific mind of primary school students with range scores between T₃₂ T₆₃, by school year 1 was T₂₇ T₆₁ , school year 2 was T₃₂ T₆₁, school year 3 was T₃₉ T₆₀ school 4 T₃₁ T₆₄, grades 5 was T₃₇ T₆₄ and school year 6 was T₃₇ T₆₄ .
