Opinions of secondary school administrators and mathematics teachers concerning mathematics instruction improvement of secondary school clusters, educational region six
Abstract:
The purpose of this research were to study the opinions of the administrators and the mathematics teachers concerning the mathematics instruction improvement of the secondary school clusters, educational region six in the following aspectspreparation of secondary school cluster operation plan, implementation of curriculum, supervision and personnel development, production and utilization of instructional materials, instructional activity management and academic services, educational measurement and evaluation. The samples were 84 administrators included directors or principals, assistant directors or assistant principals for academic affairs, mathematics department heads and 168 mathematics teachers. The total samples were 252. A questionnaire consisting of check-list, rating scale and open-ended questions was constructed by the researcher. The questionnaires were sent to the samples. The data were analyzed by means of percentage, arithmetic mean and standard deviation. The results of research about the opinions of the administration and the mathematics teachers concerning the mathematics instruction improvement of the secondary school clusters were as follows: 1. preparation of secondary school cluster operation plan. Both the administrators and the mathematics teachers had the opinions concerning preparation of secondary school cluster operation plan at the high level. According to the administrators, the secondary school clusters should take first action in making the projects evaluation report. According to the mathematics teachers, the secondary school clusters should take first action in making the projects evaluation report. According to the mathematics teachers, the secondary school clusters should take first action in co-operation of managing operation plan concerning the mathematics instruction improvement of the secondary school clusters. 2. Implementation of curriculum. Both the administrators and the mathematics teachers had the opinions concerning implementation of curriculum at the high level. According to the administrators, the secondary school clusters should take first action in making appropriate lesson plan which was relevant to the instructional objectives. According to the mathematics teachers, the secondary school clusters should take first action in guiding and providing curriculum book and curriculum handbook to the teachers prior to the schoolwork. 3. Supervision and personnel development. Both the administrators and the mathematics teachers had the opinions concerning supervision and personnel development at the high level. According to the administrators, the secondary school clusters should take first action in managing workshop, training and seminar concerning methods of teaching and techniques. According to the mathematics teachers, the secondary school clusters should take first action in supporting the mathematics teacher to study further in their specialized fields. 4. Production and utilization of instructional materials. Both the administrators and the mathematics teachers had the opinions concerning production and utilization of instructional materials at the high level. They also agreed that the secondary school clusters should take first action in guiding the mathematics teachers in making instructional materials by using simple and low price materials. According to the mathematics teachers, the secondary school clusters should take first action in guiding and demonstrating how to use the instructional materials. 5. Instruction activity management and academic services. Both the administrators and the mathematics teachers had the opinions concerning instruction activity management and academic services at the high level. According to the administrators, the secondary school clusters should take first action in making test for the mathematics teachers from time to time. According to the mathematics teachers, the secondary school clusters should take first action in making supplementary books for mathematics teachers. 6. Education measurement and evaluation. Both the administrators and the mathematics teachers had the opinions concerning education measurement and evaluation at the high level. According to the administrators, the secondary school clusters should take first action in co-operating of making formative tests and summative tests which were relevant to the instructional objectives. According to the mathematics teachers, the secondary school clusters should take first action in making the item analysis in order to make standardized tests and item bank.
