Abstract: Usability testing of an E-commerce website is one of the most critical phases in the software development process. However, usability testing done manually by humans is time consuming and error prone. The purpose of this project is to develop an automated usability tool that can help alleviate these problems. Its aim is to also provide E-commerce developers an understanding for the need of a usability testing tool to deliver the most effective outcome. The method used is to first examine common usability testing guidelines to derive a list of essential usability categories. The automated tool is then designed and developed to produce a usability report that details each of the following categories: consistency of presentation and controls, adequate feedback, efficient navigation, accessibility and robustness. The results show that the developed tool can both save the developers time and reduce the development cost.
