Effects of perfectionism on attitudes towards cosmetic surgery : the mediating roles of perfectionistic self-presentation and sociocultural internalization
Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to examine the mediating effect of perfectionistic self-presentation and sociocultural internalization on the association between perfectionism and attitudes towards cosmetic surgery. Six hundred and thirty-five female undergraduate students in Bangkok completed the measures of perfectionism, perfectionistic self-presentation, sociocultural internalization, and attitudes towards cosmetic surgery in random orders. Structural Equation Model (SEM) reveals that perfectionism can predict attitudes towards cosmetic surgery. Moreover, perfectionistic self-presentation and sociocultural internalization both have mediating effects on the association between perfectionism and attitudes towards cosmetic surgery (p < .001)
