Teachers' and public health personnel's opinions concerning school health education activities in supporting of primary health care : a case study of Changwat Singburi
Abstract:
The purpose of the research were to study and compare the teachers and public health personnels opinions concerning the school health education activities in supporting of Primary Health Care, and also to find out some reasons expressed by both teachers and public health personnel concerning those school health education activities in supporting of the Primary Health Care. The researcher collected the data by using the constructed questionnaire and structured interview which were composed of 10 areas of school health education activities in supporting of the Primary Health Care. The researcher herself collected the data by using the questionnaire from the total selected 242 teachers, and from the total 114 public health personnel. Later, the researcher collected the data by using structured interview from the total 48 selected teachers, and also from the total 47 selected public health personnel. All subjects used in this research were in the 24 elementary schools and in every public health unit in 6 Amphoes of Changwat Singburi. The data from the questionnaires collected were then analysed by using the percentage, means, standard deviation, and t-test, while the data from the structured interview collected were analysed by using percentage. The findings revealed as follows: 1. Teachers and public health personnel thought that the total 10 areas of school health education activities mostly supported Primary Health Care on the good level. 2. Teachers and public health personnels opinions and reasons concerning school health education activities in supporting of Primary Health Care were as the following: 2.1 Teachers and public health personnels opinions toward the school health education activities in supporting of Primary Health Care were not significantly different at .05 level. They were "To prevent and to control local communicable diseases" and "To promote the immunization," by having the top mutual reasons stated that the cooperation and coordination between teachers and public health personnel including students' participation in the controlling and preventing of communicable diseases will be able to help decrease the dangerous communicable disease problems of the community. 2.2 There were 8 areas of school health education activities which possessed some significantly different items. They were health education teaching, nutrition, nursing, providing some necessary drugs, environmental sanitation and clean water supply, maternal and child health and family planning, public health dental work, and mental health promotion. Among all of the school health education activities concerned, the area of health education teaching possessed most number of significantly different items by having the top reason from the teachers stated that to teach the lesson of Primary Health Care could help students to possess the proper concept of Primary Health Care, while the reason from the public health personnel stated that health content should be improved according to the daily life health problems of the students.
