Abstract:
This thesis studies the effect of microstructure on hardness for hardened and tempered
GS-34 CrNiMo 6 alloy steel. In order to obtain different quenched and tempered, the
samples of studies alloy steel were austenitized at the temperature of 845°C, for 30
minutes and quenched in oil. Then samples were tempered at 425°C and 650°C, for 30,
60, 90 and 120 minutes. The tempering temperature and holding time were selected
specimen to study the precipitates of carbide. Due to the tested tempering conditions,
the hardness decreases with increasing tempering temperature and holding time. At
tempering temperature 425°C, contain microstructural of the carbide three
characteristic, fine needle carbide, coarse needle carbide and spheroid carbide. And
tempering temperature at 650°C, contain microstructural of the carbide two
characteristic, large spheroid carbide and fine spheroid carbide, which studies by field
emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), electron backscatter diffraction
(EBSD) and the image analyzer program. This thesis can show quantity of carbide
precipitated, characteristic of carbide, type of carbide and expansion of carbide under
different tempering conditions, which effect to the hardness for GS-34 CrNiMo 6 alloy
steel.
