Abstract:
Due to a constant increase in demand of computers, the computer components
suppliers were dealing with the financial loss from the late of product delivery. The
suppliers had to pay extra for making overtime, increasing production line, and
expanding production at another plant. Previous studies showed that there was a loss of
profit of approximately 110.74 million baht on the investment, and the cost of purchasing
and installing new equipment for expanding production was around 145.58 million baht.
Therefore, this work was tasked to redesign and improve process for raising productivity.
First, work procedure was studied to determine the bottleneck of the process. Second,
methods improvement was proposed by redesigning a loading fixture, which could place
20 pieces of work instead of 1 piece of work performed before. This improvement could
help operator performed the task repetitively, and decrease a significant amount of
loading time from 1.42 seconds per piece to 1.17 seconds per piece. Production rate
increased to 1,679,000 pieces per month per production line from 1,384,000 pieces per
month per production line in the past. As a result, a total productivity increased 21.34%.
A total cost of this process improvement was 844,181 baht per production line and this
amount of money could be paid back within 9 days.
