Relationships between work Characterics, Job performance, organization climate and work happiness of emergency Nurses at community Hospitals in Central Region
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study the level of work happiness of emergency nurses at community hospitals in central region, relationships and prediction of work happiness between work characteristics, job performance and organization climate. The samples consisted of 369 emergency nurses randomly selected from 33 community hospitals located in 11 provinces of central region. The research instruments were questionnaires assessing personal data, work happiness, work characteristics, job performance and organization climate. These questionnaires were tested for content validity by a panel of experts and reliability using Cronbach, s alpha coefficients which these were .83, .84, .93, and .87 respectively. Data were
analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson, s product moment correlation coefficient, and
stepwise multiple regression. The findings were as followed: Work happiness of emergency nurses at community hospitals in central region was at a high level ( x = 3.97, SD = 0.75). There were statistically significant, moderate and positive relationships between work characteristics, job performance, organization climate and work happiness of emergency nurses at community hospitals in central region at alpha .05 (r = .519, .612, and .480 respectively). The variables that could significantly predict work happiness of emergency nurses at community hospitals in central region at the .05 level were job performance and work characteristics accounting for 42.4 percents of the variance of work happiness (R2=.424). Nursing administrators should enhance advancement in knowledge and work performance by providing opportunity for continuing education. In addition, creating work characteristics appropriate with
personnel s ability or aptitude would bring about satisfaction and work happiness, leading to better quality of nursing service.
