Factors influencing alcohol dependence relapse behavior in psychiatric patients with comorbid alcohol dependence at Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry
Abstract:
This study was done as exploratory research with the objectives of
studying factors influencing alcohol dependence relapse behavior in psychiatric
patients. Samples were 39 psychiatric patients with morbid alcohol dependence at
Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry. Data were collected by using as
interview questionnaire and SPSS software to perform frequency, percentage,
mean, standard deviation (SD), and Chi-square.
The results showed most patients were males (79.5%), aged between 31-
40 years old, single, with primary education or lower, employed or casually
employed with income lower than 5,000 baht and living in the community
townhouses, congested communities and markets near business areas. Data
analysis on correlation suggested that life crisis was correlated with relapse
behavior of psychiatric patients, at the significance level of 0.05. This indicated
that a person facing life crisis at high level had more chance for relapsing than
those with medium and low life crisis.
The recommendation from this research is that the study of extreme life
crisis as the factor causing relapse behavior can be adapted as basic data to plan
further treatment.
