Information system for waste management at Ko Samet Rayong province
Abstract:
The objective of this study is to apply Geo-Informatics Technology including
Remote Sensing (RS), the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Geographic
Information System (GIS) integrated with Relational Database Management
(RDBMS) in order to develop an appropriate database in supporting waste
management at Ko Samet, Rayong Province. It was developed in order to support and
strengthen the operation activities at both the practical and decision-making levels,
using System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The program design is based on the
process of Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) and an E-R Model. The software programs
used in this study include ArcView 3.2, ArcGIS 8.3 and ERDAS-Imagine 8.3 for
Geo-Informatics approach and Visual Basic .Net and SQL Server 2000 for relational
database management approach.
The output of the system shows appropriate structures for database and
information systems supporting waste management. They include the operations of
data input, storage, analysis and presentation. In addition, the system also provided the
manipulation of existing status of waste and predicting waste that might occur in the
area in the future. Thus, this should be supported for appropriate waste management
and planning in the area. In addition, this information system has been evaluated as a
user-friendly tool and practically available for routine operation. However, further
design for outside linkage and networking through this system is still important and
needed.
