Youths' right protection in investigation process in criminal case
Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to investigate the knowledge and understanding
of the investigative police on processes and methods to protect rights of juvenile delinquents
in the investigative police stage and the problems and obstacles for such procedures. Twenty
investigative police from ten metropolitan police stations were sampled. The data was
collected through the qualitative method and analysis by descriptive statistic and content
analysis.
The results are as follows:
1) In terms of personal background, most of the samples were aged from 45-
49 years, had a bachelor degree and had worked for 16-20 years. Their income level ranged
between 30,001-35,000 bahts. They had a high level of understanding of the protection of
rights for juvenile delinquents and needed more training on the rights protection laws.
2) As for their knowledge and understanding of the process and methods to
protect the rights of juvenile delinquents most of the sample expressed a high level of
understanding of juvenile protection law. However, some measures or methods still had a big
psychological effect on juveniles.
3) In terms of problems and obstacles, it was found that there were problems
in finance, materials, personnel and management.
The recommendations from this research are to continue to amend some provisions
of the law to enhance its protective capacity, to provide more finance for the Royal Police
Bureau, to train police better in the law, and to set up psychology workshops among relevant
organizations to set and evaluate procedures.
