Abstract:
The purpose of this quasi - experimental study was to examine the effect of
home-based physical activities in daily life on older adults. The Sample comprised
older adults aged 70 years or over and living in communities near the primary care
center at Ayutthaya Hospital. By purposive selection, 33 older adults formed an
experimental group and 33 a comparison group. The research procedure included 8
weeks intervention and 4 weeks follow up after the intervention with PRECEDE
Framework application. Data were collected using questionnaires, physical health
assessments and physical performance assessments. Statistical analysis was
performed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi - square, Independent t -
test and Repeated Measures ANOVA (One Way ANOVA) and Post Hoc.
Immediately after the intervention, the experimental group showed
significantly higher mean scores of knowledge, attitude, behavior on the home - based
physical activities in daily life (6 style to assign) and physical performance (muscle
strength of hand and leg, flexibility of spine, range of motion of joints) than the
comparison group. Immediately after the intervention and the 4 week follow up, the
experimental group had significantly higher mean scores of knowledge, attitude,
behavior on the home - based physical activities in daily life (6 style to assign) and
physical performance (range of motion of shoulder and elbow) than before the
intervention (p < 0.001)
Although the behavior of the older adults in this study did not last, the results
indicate that the home-based physical activities in daily life had had some effect on
increasing knowledge, attitude, behavior and physical performance. Accordingly,
promoting family and social awareness of encouraging promotion and advocacy
inducing physical activities in older adults should be done.
